The Grapes Public House (Formerly The Kings Arms)
Birthplace of Sir Daniel Gooch, 1st Baronet (August 24, 1816 – October 15, 1889) was MP for Cricklade from 1865 to 1885 and the first chief mechanical engineer of the Great Western Railway from 1837 to 1864. He was the brother of John Viret Gooch. He eventually rose to be Chairman of the Great Western Railway.

The Grape's Pub
This is the former Kings Arms Public House on Front Street West, Bedlington, still a bar but renamed The Grapes. Built as a town house it was to become where Sir Daniel Gooch the Great Cable Laying and Railway Engineer and Member of Parliament lived during his childhood.
Gooch was Isambard Kingdom Brunel's chief engineer and became Chairman of the Great Western Railway for over 30 years. He was also involved in the laying of the first transatlantic telegraph cable.
