Jesmond Vale and Vale House
Path through the park at Jesmond Vale with the tower block of Vale House rising over the trees. This was built in 1967 after most of the old houses in Jesmond Vale were demolished as slum clearance. The tower is 80m high, 262ft, and was Newcastle's tallest building at the time. Hadrian's Tower near Westgate Road, completed in 2020, now has that title. It's 2m taller.

At 262 feet, this point block is Newcastle's tallest building. Quite slender, its "poured profiled concrete panels ... formed using shuttering designed by Derwent Wise", brother of the architect, Douglass Wise. Built 1966-68.
