Fish ladder on the River Derwent
The ladder is the concrete construction at the far side of the weir. This weir at Dam Head near Swalwell has blocked access for spawning fish such as Salmon and Sea Trout to the River Derwent for 300 years. Now fish will be able to cross the weir up the ladder which was opened in 2015.
