Ponteland Leisure Centre & High School
Ponteland School & Leisure Centre features a 420-place primary school and a 1,600-place secondary school, a state-of-the-art leisure centre with swimming pools, aqua play, spa, gym, climbing walls, dance studios, soft play zone, a 3G sports pitch, bar, cafés, library and a new community fire station. As part of the project, there was an archaeological requirement to conduct a dig on the eastern side of the Fairney Burn - the site of new sports pitches. During the dig, old settlements and human remains dating back to 2,500 BC were found. They also found a lot of evidence of early Northumberland settlements, pre-dating Hadrian’s wall, dating back to Iron and Bronze Ages.
