The shop was one of the once familiar outlets of Carricks the bakers. The frontage (c 1900) is finished in faience tiles (easily cleaned in the dirty city of the past). See also Image The Buildings of Grainger Town - No.36. See Image

1-17 Market Street, NE1
The northern side of Image Built c 1837 by John and Benjamin Green for Richard Grainger. At the far end, the decorative treatment of the Grey Street face of the theatre continues round onto the wing, followed by a plain section with two almost central Tuscan pilasters, a grand pavilion of five square columns (a bank) a plain section again, and finally a wing with Tuscan pilasters and decorated windows at on the first floor to match the Pilgrim Street face. This is the only example in Grainger Town of the use of giant square, rather than round, columns. 2-10 Market Street, NE1
Built c 1839 for Richard Grainger - but there is no grand composition of wings and pavilions: it is all relatively plain, although the (slightly recessed) corner is curved with curved sliding sash windows. The building is Grade II listed http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1355265 . See also Image The Buildings of Grainger Town - No.37. See Image

Lloyds Bank Building on Grey Street
This large bank occupies the corner of Grey Street and Market Street (the one with the bus). It is one of the oldest buildings on Grey Street, dating to 1839. It has always been a bank, although there have been several different ones. Although the exterior is little changed, the interior had a radical rebuild in the late 20th century.
