43-51 Grey Street, NE1
Built c 1837, probably by John Wardle for Richard Grainger, as a row of four plain houses, with three window bays each (the usual style in Grey Street). In 1990 they were reduced to a facade and new offices built behind, with a new mansard roof above. Impressive Facade on Grey Street
Built between 1834-9 these fine apartments, banks & shops were part of a redesign of Newcastle to wash away the medieval street plan.

42-50 Grey Street, NE1
Built c 1836 by John Dobson for Richard Grainger. Uniquely in the whole of Grey Street, two thirds of the original facade was demolished and (inappropriately) rebuilt in 1910. Renovations in 1969 removed the alterations and replaced the facade in the style of the original - except for the ground floor which has an additional floor inserted. 52-78 Grey Street, Newcastle
By John Dobson, who designed most of the east side of the street, and built c1835. Although the street is far from uniform, there are recurring motifs, as seen here, of plainer blocks between more decorative, raised and projecting end blocks. Grade II* listed.

33-51 Grey Street, Newcastle
The buildings on the west side of the street were designed by two assistants of Richard Grainger, John Wardle and George Walker. Nos. 33-41, dated c1835, was built for the Bank of England, hence the grand columned front; nos. 43-51 are plainer and have been rebuilt behind the front. Both grade II* listed.
