18-26 Grey Street, Newcastle
By John Dobson, who designed most of the east side of the street, and built c1835. All very grand, the more so since W.L. Newcombe added the granite-columned shopfront c1890. Grade II listed.

John Dobson Plaque, Grey Street
Grey Street was built by Richard Grainger https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Grainger in the 1830s with the aid of several architects, including John Dobson (1787-1865 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Dobson_(architect) ) who designed the eastern side of the Street up to Shakespeare Street. Grey Street is renowned for its Georgian architecture, and was voted 'Best street in the UK' by BBC Radio 4 listeners in 2010 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/tyne/content/panoramas/360_greystreet.shtml BBC Tyne).
This blue plaque is affixed to the wall on the eastern side of the street, close to its junction with Mosley Street.

10-16 Grey Street, NE1
Here, just north of Mosley Street, Dobson's range of buildings breaks up into a hodge-podge of contrasting replacements of different periods.
No. 10 (right) has a single grand doorway and a staircase pushed through from 21 Mosley Street in 1908 to give it a fashionable Grey Street address; the building is not listed.
Nos.12-16 were built c 1879 by Johnson and Hicks for an insurance company: pale terracotta frontage with arcaded ground floor and double bays on the upper floors topped by a balustrade. There is nothing like this in Grey Street (and little elsewhere in Newcastle). The building is Grade II listed http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1024878 .
