Pink Lane looking to Clayton Street
Pink Lane is an ancient street that ran behind the medieval town walls of Newcastle. It can be seen continuing on the far side of Clayton Street, from where it runs down to Neville Street, opposite the Central Station. The name comes from the Pink Tower on the wall. Despite its narrow width, it still has plenty of shops.

This street was the main route west out of medieval Newcastle and follows the line of Hadrian's Wall. Hence the straight lines. Picture taken from beside Cross House, on the right.

Northern Goldsmiths, 85-89 Westgate Road, NE1
This Art Nouveau turret and offices were built up against Grainger's terrace in Clayton Street West. See also Image The Image on the corner was added in 1932. Both can be seen in Image The building is Grade II listed http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1380580 .

85-89 Westgate Road, Newcastle
Optimal exploitation of a narrow corner site. Baroque, by Cackett & Burns Dick, 1910, for Northern Goldsmiths. Obligatory domed turret. The gilded clock and figure were apparently added c1932 (Image]). Grade II listed.
The shop was occupied by printers, Printing.com.
