'Tag Tile' artwork (detail), Longbenton Metro Station
'Tag Tile' by Simon Jones & Rob Belilios (2001) consists of a number of panels on the footbridge at Longbenton Metro Station Image Their work incorporates fifty different abstracted tags and marks inspired by graffiti designed by local youngsters. The tags are housed within repeat speech bubbles and screen printed onto pastel coloured tiles. The overall tiled surface of the footbridge seeks to be representative while abstracted, and is coupled with coloured filtered lighting to transform the interior bridge space. http://www.nexus.org.uk/art-transport/commissions/tag-tile-simon-jones-rob-belilios

'Journey's Echo', Longbenton Metro Station
'Journey's Echo', an artwork by Elinor Eastwood (1999) situated on platforms 1 and 2. Produced in collaboration with 6th Form students from St Mary’s RC Comprehensive School, ‘Journey’s Echo’ consists of four pairs of vitreous enamelled panels, two pairs per platform. Another panel is shown here Image The panels are placed in a sequence 1-4, linked by a text created by the artist and the students: ‘These histories travel with me stone on stone, bone on bone, mapped out, course plotted, through city, sea, me’. Each pair of panels butted together, like the open pages of a book, contain visual reminders of the city and sea. Images of pebbles run throughout the panels. They are repetitious, like journeys between the sea and the city, but no two are ever the same. http://www.nexus.org.uk/art-transport/commissions/journeys-echo-elinor-eastwood
