Arran View
This house in Arran Drive, off Commonhead Road, was built about 1868 for local solicitor Gavin Black Motherwell (1843-1908). It is in the style of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson, and is attributed to him or his brother George or their architectural practice, though no documentary evidence has come to light to prove it. A porch by George Arthur was added in 1895, and the building was converted to flast in 1987 by Ian Bridges. It is said to be, or to have been, possible to see the Isle of Arran from the house on a clear day.
