Riveting tower
Yes really. Thomas Hudson, Sheepford Boiler Works. The open spindly tower was for riveting boilers while suspended vertically.

Derelict works
Thomas Hudson, Sheepford Boiler Works. I'm not sure that health and safety would allow people in to such decrepit sites today. This was 1985

Thomas Hudson, Sheepford Boiler Works - old boiler
This shot nicely showcases an old egg-ended boiler re-used as a tank. The egg-ended was a low pressure, externally fired design. Essentially a design from the first half of the nineteenth century, some remained in use until the middle of the twentieth century. The brick building to its left housed a Marshall steam engine.

Plate bending rolls, Sheepford Boiler Works
I've never before seen steam powered plate bending rolls. The steam engine can't have been that powerful because it seems to have been disconnected and replaced with a big manual crank handle. It is believed that Summerlee had this item but I've never seen it there.
