On the Sunnyside of Coatbridge
Sunnyside railway junctions on the electrified railway between Glasgow and Airdrie and steam locomotives in Summerlee Museum. The rusty track on the left of the photo runs down towards Whifflet; regular passenger trains ceased to pass over it in October 1951 but the line remained open for freight traffic to the marshalling yards around Whifflet and it is still occasionally used for passenger trains diverted because of engineering operations. The points in the right background formed a continuation of this line northwards to a cement works and marshalling yard at Gunnie, out of use for several years. Both these lines were part of the early Monkland & Kirkintilloch Railway, dating from the 1830s. The headstocks in the left background are part of a coal mine display in the museum.

Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life - Sentinel locomotive
The blue locomotive is a Sentinel steam locomotive with a vertical boiler in the cab. No. 9628 of 1957. It worked at R.B. Tennants, Whifflet Foundry in Coatbridge. It has had a coat of paint and looks tidier than it did in pictures from the 2010s.
