"Four Children" - two of the busts
There are four busts here, with two positioned on each side of the pedestrian precinct. Two of the busts are shown here, while one of those on the other side of the street is shown here: Image Together, the four busts make up a single public artwork called "Four Children". A plaque located here explains the work: "Four Children by Kenny Hunter" "The sculpted portrait bust is an object usually reserved for later life, bestowed on those who have been judged special, an achiever. This work, 'four children', inverts that tradition by monumentalising four anonymous children and drawing attention to childhood as an important and pivotal period in all our lives: a time when we project our hopes into an uncertain future." "This work was developed using a photographic record of Hamilton School children." "Quarry Street Public Arts Project 1997/98 Sculptor: Kenny Hunter Assisted by: Kenneth MacKay Bronze Casting by: Powderhall Bronze."
