Inside the Lochnell lead mine, Wanlockhead
An informative tour of the mine is available via the Mining Museum. Visitors are taken along the roughly horizontal passage which followed the veins of lead ore (galena or lead sulphide) into the hill. At the farthest point on the tour, the surface is about 40m above. The mine was worked for 150 years from 1710 to 1860. The tour and the museum give a vivid impression of the hard life of the miners in those early days. (Lochnell Visitor Mine booklet, Wanlockhead Museum Trust 2004)

"The Manor", Wanlockhead
This tiny cottage dates from 1989 and is definitely not one of the original miner's cottages which dot the village. The cottage is only marginally larger than the summerhouse in the garden.
