Watling Street, Crawford
The accepted route of the ancient track Watling Street, later used by the Romans, is from Kent to Shropshire, but the name here probably relates to a Roman road to the Antonine Wall, following the Clyde valley much as the railway and motorway do today.

Unknown monument, Crawford
According to the local guidebook 'More Village Trails in Upper Clydesdale' by Rosemary Turpie (Quothquan Trails 2018) the purpose of this unmarked stone pillar is unclear. It was lying by the roadside until erected at the junction of Carlisle Road and Camps Road by the local council.
