A busy time at the station as the main East Coast route was blocked due to a tunnel at Penmanshiel having fallen in and closed the route south of Dunbar. All services were running via the West Coast . A class 87 loco for Glasgow is in the platform while a HST is seen on the adjoining line.

Carstairs Junction
Now just called Carstairs, this used to be a busy station where trains split or were joined together, one half for Edinburgh, the other for Glasgow. This does not happen anymore and the quieter status of the station has led to most of the buildings Image being demolished.

Snowed in at Carstairs Junction, 1984
Class 87 Electric locomotives Nos 87005 and 87025 stand at the locomotive stabling point at Carstairs Junction in January 1985. The snowy conditions had rendered the overhead power cables unusable and trains were being diesel hauled, thus the electric locomotives were parked temporarily at this location until conditions improved.
