Resurfacing the A70
The Lanark Road was closed. Fortunately a coincidence of lunch time and a very heavy rain shower gave a good chance of a dash through without some hazardous encounters with reversing vehicles. (A quick risk assessment had concluded that the lengthy diversion through Lanark was very hazardous compared with the closed and therefore empty A70). Complete road closures are increasingly common.

Coal lorry, Ravenstruther
Ravenstruther receives coal from the big opencast mines in Lanarkshire and Ayrshire and loads it on to trains. I expect a lot ends up at Longannet power station Image Ravenstruther is well placed to carry coal to England too.

Ravenstruther Coal Terminal Entrance
This is/was a Scottish Coal facility, but I'm not sure if it is still operational. The Scottish Coal notice at the gate Image has gone, and these are the only signs at the entrance. One would expect the gates to be shut if it was not in use anymore.
