When the original church was built the site was quite adequate but later extensions were greatly affected by the shape of the plot on which it stood. This can be evidenced by the gable on the right of the picture.

Hunter's Close, Lanark
According to an information panel produced by Discover Lanark https://www.lanark.co.uk/history/lanarks-closes/hunters-close During the 1880s and 1890s Hunter and McMorran Ironmongers, located at 53 High Street, was the first shop in the town to have electric lighting, powered from a private generator. Installed by David Hunter, a pioneer in the field of electrical engineering, this close was named after him.
