Railway Cottage, Coalburn
The abandoned telegraph pole suggests that the footpath might have been an old railway line and indeed it was the former Coalburn branch. The extended cottage on the left is named "Railway Cottage" but whether this is because it was immediately adjacent to the railway or whether it was built to house railway staff is not known. Immediately opposite and just out of the picture to the right was the waste tip of Bellfield Colliery, which was served by a set of railway sidings just beyond the bushes behind the two walkers.
