Former tollhouse
Surveyed by the Milestone Society. On the A726 from East Kilbride to Strathaven this property is at the north west corner of a minor road leading westwards.

Looking back to Rutherend Toll junction on the A726
I have failed to find a reason for the "Toll" name here. Current OS 25,000 mapping names it thus but not 50,000. Looking back to late 19th century OS mapping, when a toll might just have been in place, the road junction is named simply "Rutherend". The corner is known locally as "Rutherend Toll".

Wood and fields near Rutherend
At Rutherend a minor road leaves the A726 for Auldhouse and Eaglesham. After about half a kilometre it passes this little wood.

This shady spot is on a minor road just off the A726 East Kilbride-Strathaven road. The picture looks west towards the bend where the road passes over a burn.
