Seen on a beech hedge
Not a berry or otherwise attached; some kind of insect egg cocoon? As a result of a very useful discussion - http://www.geograph.org.uk/discuss/index.php?&action=vthread&forum=2&topic=29301 - it was finally agreed that these are not animal or vegetable, but mineral; plastic insulation balls!

Road Junction on the A71 Strathaven
The point where the B743 to Muirkirk branches off from the A71 (to Kilmarnock). Up to the 1970's this was a fork in the road with a garage at the corner. Also the B743 was at that time a continuation of the A723.
