Handsome stone house, Strathaven
This house is typical of detached residences in the wealthier parts of Scotland, and many similar can be seen in Edinburgh. Strathaven is well endowed with good architecture, sporting facilities and parks. One world famous Scot who lived there was Sir Harry Lauder - the Victorian equivalent of a pop star (and nearly as well paid, in his day). An older generation will remember some of his great "hits", which included "I Love a Lassie", "Roamin' in the Gloamin" and "Keep Right on to the End of the Road".

"Evening Glow" at the Strathaven Balloon Festival
Eight hot-air balloons tethered and lit up on a fine clear night - quite a sight for the large crowds which gathered.
Unfortunately this year (2015) the weekend was pretty breezy and not many balloons managed flights.

Strathaven Balloon Festival, 2019
The UK's furthest north balloon festival, this event has grown and grown, so much so that over 20,000 people descend on this small town (population 9000) for a weekend of hot-air balloons and the funfair.
Eleven balloons were illuminated in the 'night glow'; in this image, six can be seen.
