Midsummer Boulevard, Milton Keynes
At first sight, thoroughfares in central Milton Keynes can seem to be a confusing mass of roadways and footpaths; the logic is that either side of the main carriageway there is a service road with multiple parking bays. This is convenient for motorists (until the bays fill up), but less so for pedestrians who are faced with long walks because everything is so spread out. There is some provision for cyclists, however. The crane in the background is working on the Pinnacle, a new office block due to open in summer 2009.

Midsummer Boulevard, Milton Keynes
Looking up the footpath on the northern side of Midsummer Boulevard from the junction with Grafton Gate. This is part of the main business district of Milton Keynes, with office buildings lining both sides of the road. 'Midsummer Boulevard' is so-named because the sun supposedly rises and sets at either end of the street on midsummer day.

Subway under Midsummer Boulevard, Milton Keynes
This subway leads under the western end of Midsummer Boulevard on the eastern side of Grafton Gate. The office block ahead was formerly the Charles Schwab Building, but is now known as plain 401 Grafton Gate.

There is an Ordnance Survey rivet benchmark on top of the near end of the bridge parapet where the ivy has been cut back: the mark is described on the Bench Mark Database at http://www.bench-marks.org.uk/bm80530
