St. John the Baptist, Flitton
This fine 15th century church stands in the centre of the village of Flitton and whilst a handsome ironstone building it would not be remarkable were it not for that cream coloured chancel. For attached to this chancel is one of the most remarkable mausoleums in Britain. It contains the effigies and funerary memorials of the de Grey family, the hereditary Earls of Kent who lived at nearby Wrest Park. Though I visited the mausoleum a dozen or so years ago and remember it well, I was unable to gain access on the day I took this photo as I was unable to get the key from the address suggested on the Image I will try again on another occasion.
