A1 southbound, Tempsford Bridge: fleeting view of river and marina
At Tempsford, the old course of the Great North Road through a double-bend over the old Tempsford Bridge is followed by the northbound carriageway, whilst the southbound carriageway follows a straighter course over a newer bridge. From the southbound carriageway one has a fleeting glimpse of the old bridge, the Great Ouse, and the marina between the bridges.

Tempsford Bridge
The 'original' Tempsford Bridge in the foreground is not wide/safe enough for two-way traffic - with a double bend in the vicinity as well. Although a two-lane carriageway, this bridge has been supplemented by another modern bridge (carrying south-bound traffic) which was constructed a short distance downstream; perhaps just visible through an arch. The river is the Great Ouse.

North Flood Arches, Tempsford Bridge
Tempsford Bridge and the multispan stone Flood Arches were all built around 1815 to provide a dry route over the Great Ouse River. They are 'listed' as Ancient Monuments.
