Vertical landing of Harrier jet, Bedford Modern School
I couldn't remember what the occasion was, but someone who saw this image got in touch to let me know that it was a "NATO awareness day" for the whole school. As well as this Harrier, we saw Sea King and Lynx helicopters land in the field and watched a fly-past by four Lightnings.

Hanging rood in St Martin's Church
The rood, or crucifix with figures, is considered one of the most impressive features of St Martin's and was designed by J.N. Lawson in 1962.

St Martin's Church
St Martin's, in Clapham Road, was completed in 1889 to the design of Julius Alfred Chatwin - a rare example of his work outside the Birmingham area. Pevsner describes it as "unattractive externally, much more convincing inside".
