Remembrance Day tribute in Cosgrove
Tributes like this one were posted around the village in November 2019 remembering the local men who went to war. It is not limited to those who never came back but also includes the men who survived like Arthur Beasley and Harry Johnson who happily returned home to Cosgrove.

Solomon's Bridge, (Bridge 65), Cosgrove, Grand Union Canal
The splendid Gothic decorated Solomon's Bridge is unique on the canal system and instantly recognisable by many boaters. It was built in 1800, though why such an ornate bridge should have been provided here, no-one seems to know.

Cosgrove Bridge
One of only two ornamental bridges on the Grand Union Canal. Also known as Solomon's or Solman's Bridge or Samson's Bridge.
There is a long but fascinating article on https://www.cosgrovehistory.co.uk/doc/bridge/br.html from the Cosgrove History Society, with all sorts of stuff about it, including how it got damaged by trucks while the M1 was being built, how birds peck the limestone away, how squirrels cross the bridge, the party for the Bridge's 180th birthday etc.
Unsurprisingly, it carries Bridge Road over the canal.

Solomon's Bridge
The splendid Gothic decorated Solomon's Bridge (no 65) is unique on the canal network. Nowhere else is this gothic style used. It was probably built this way in 1800 to appease a local landlord, but the exact circumstances are lost in the mists of time.

Grand Union Canal: Bridge Number 65
Bridge Number 65 is Soloman's Bridge in Cosgrove. Its elaborate design commemorates the point at which the southern arm of the Grand Junction Canal built from Brentford northwards met the northern arm of the canal built from Braunston southwards in 1800. It is called Soloman's Bridge reputedly after the local landowner whose land the new canal was cut across. The bridge is constructed of dressed limestone which has badly eroded in many parts. It is a Grade II* Listed Structure.
