Bridge 78A, Grand Junction Canal
Along this stretch of the canal, Bridge 78 is followed by 78B. Bridge 78A seems to have most likely existed at this point where there are two pathways either side of the canal.

Grand Union Canal: Reach in Giffard Park
For the most part the canal is shielded from the houses in the new residential suburbs of Milton Keynes (and vice versa). Here the houses off Hainault Avenue are hidden behind the high hedge at the back of the towpath on the right.
Glass reinforced polyester (GRP) cruisers such as the one moored on the right are unusual on the canal system as they do not withstand the rigours of movement within locks as well as all-steel narrowboats, which to a certain extent may account for the festooning of the craft with copious fenders.

Grand Union Canal, Giffard Park
The Grand Union Canal loops round the eastern and northern sides of Milton Keynes; at Giffard Park it changes direction. There are British Waterways water and sanitation facilities just beyond the bridge.

Grand Union Canal: Bridge Number 78
The 1888 large scale Ordnance Survey map shows that there was a bridge crossing the canal here, on a green path route across the fields, between Great Linford and Newport Pagnell, and long before the city of Milton Keynes was dreamt of.
