Grand Union Canal: Reach in Giffard Park
For the most part the canal is shielded from the houses in the new residential suburbs of Milton Keynes (and vice versa). Here the houses off Hainault Avenue are hidden behind the high hedge at the back of the towpath on the right. Glass reinforced polyester (GRP) cruisers such as the one moored on the right are unusual on the canal system as they do not withstand the rigours of movement within locks as well as all-steel narrowboats, which to a certain extent may account for the festooning of the craft with copious fenders.
