The Concrete Cows
The famous Milton Keynes concrete cows - in their original setting (although also available to see at the Middleton Shopping centre on the day this photo was taken). Quite difficult to find and not signposted at all (indeed a local garage had no idea where they were!). Now a little worse for wear/ Nearest road to park on is Octavian Drive.

Concrete Cows, Milton Keynes
The Concrete Cows are a work of sculpture created in 1978 by the Canadian artist Liz Leyh. They consist of three cows and three calves. Surprisingly, they are not too easy to find. As far as I could see, there are no signs leading to the concrete cows. See https://www.mkcows.com/information+history+of+the+real+milton+keynes+concrete+cows.shtml for an interesting review of the adventurous and chequered history of the concrete cows.

Concrete Cows, Milton Keynes
These are the replicas Concrete Cows in Bancroft, sited next to the A422 (Monks Way), a dual carriageway with redway cycle-ways and footpaths. Using Milton Keynes grid system, the cows are located next to the northern carriageway of H3 Monks Way between V5 Great Monks St. and V6 Grafton St. where it passes under the West Coast Main Line, near its junction with the A5.

Milton Keynes: the famous concrete cows
In the 1970s and 1980s, these were the most famous thing about Milton Keynes to outsiders, and I would look out for them every time I was on a train along the West Coast Main Line. Nowadays the trees have grown up and although the cows are right next to the line they are hard to see; I don't hear them mentioned as often, either, so it may be that Milton Keynes' image is changing a little.
