Houses in Motney Hill Road
Motney Hill is a small piece of land between Rainham and Otterham Creeks whose highest point is just over 50 feet above sea level. It is home to a large sewage treatment facility which opened in 1923 and between 1912 and the 1930s was the location of a cement works and associated chalk quarry.

Houses at Motney Hill
I would guess that this short row of houses was built for workers in the Motney Hill Water Treatment Works, which is nearby. The works treats sewage from most of the Medway Towns.

The approach to Motney Hill
Some of the 'hills' around here are so low that you have to wonder how they came by their names. But Motney Hill is a real hill, rising above the Medway mudflats which all but surround it. Seen here shortly before sunset on a July evening.
