New Hythe station
The Medway Valley Line was built in two stages by the South Eastern Railway. The first stage opened in 1844 was from Paddock Wood following the Medway Valley to Maidstone. In 1856 the line was extended down the Medway Valley to the North Kent Line at Strood (which had opened in 1847). However, no trains called at New Hythe until 9th December 1929, when New Hythe Halt, a timber-built halt, was opened to serve the huge paper mill complex which had been established beside the line. The present, more substantial station on the northbound platform was constructed in 1936, but was closed in September 1989 and subsequently became derelict. This is the view from the Tonbridge-bound platform looking towards Tonbridge. Some of the paper mills can be seen in the distance, but there also seems to have been much demolition of the old mills near the station.

Pipe Bridge over River Medway
This connects the two parts of Southern Water Treatment Works. Strangely several pipes leave on left-hand side but only two connect on right-hand bank.

Outfall from Sewage Works
The large Southern Water Works on north bank of the River Medway, seen from footpath MR049 from Aylesford Station to New Hythes Lane. The water works occupy both sides of this river and turn the water dirty colours and smelling foul, making this footpath only suitable for workers in the general area.

Riverside Footpath near New Hythe Station
It is well surfaced here but this does not last. To the right there is a paper mill being demolished.
