War memorial at Mereworth
This is to be found at the western entrance to the churchyard. There are a huge number of names and unusually they are listed by years. There is a long list of recruits in 1914 and all those who were killed have a small cross by their name.

St Lawrence Mereworth
St Lawrence Church in Mereworth was rebuilt by the Earl of Westmorland in 1744-6. It is described by Pevsner as "the outstanding 18th century church in the county, in scale and ambition and in architectural interest. It is a thousand pities that the architect's name is unknown." He describes how the steeple was copied almost directly from St Martin-in-the-Fields, over a church after the manner of St Paul's, Covent Garden, and with the west porch close in design to St Paul's, Deptford.
