Charlton Court is a fragment of a house with the date 1612 in the gable. Sir Edward Filmer had begun the house before 1610 but then bought East Sutton Park to the west and decided to make East Sutton his main seat. He abandoned the new work at Charlton Court after only one third of the house had been built, although retaining ownership of the house. During the First World War the house was used as a military hospital. It was first used educationally by The Caldecott Community from 1917 to 1924 as a boarding school for working men's children. Red Hill School moved from Red Hill, Chislehurst to Charlton Court in 1935, the name Red Hill moving with the school. The school closed in July 1992. For the next ten years it was leased to Kent County Council who used it as a day centre for a Pupil Referral Unit, catering for much the same type of children that had previously boarded there. This lease ended in 2003 and the property was sold.
