Avington Close
The parish of Tovil has seen an explosion of house building since the early 1970s. This Wimpey estate, built near the edge of the Parish boundary in the mid-70s, is on the site of a former quarry that was partially refilled, hence the difference in levels between Avington Close and Rainham Close in the background. An ancient footpath that runs left to right behind the fir trees in the centre of the picture was retained when the estate was built. Going to the right, the footpath leads to Straw Mill Hill and the former milling region of the Loose Valley Image

Old Tovil Road, Maidstone
The pavement in front of these houses is raised, with another pavement to the left of the wall and lower down. Hayle Road (A229) is just ahead. This is part of the one way system to the south of central Maidstone.

The old Postley Works
Situated in Postley Road adjacent to South Park School, this was a small industrial unit housing a number of businesses. Formerly it was the Postley Works, the maintenance depot for the Maidstone & District bus company. The building is being demolished (October 2006) to make way for a residential development.
