Site of Peters cement plant
Peters cement plant (the "Wouldham Hall Lime & Cement Works") made cement here from around 1870 to 1928 (see www.cementkilns.co.uk/cement_kiln_peters.html ). The kiln house for the two small F L Smidth rotary kilns installed in 1911-1913 was just to the left of this point.

Former Blue Circle Works at Wouldham
On Old Church Road, only a track for cyclists and walkers. Road blocked at Hall Cottages. Track on Medway Valley Walk (long distance footpath) from Wouldham, heading left to Eccles. This is the site of the Wouldham Hall cement plant, which operated from 1858 to 1928. Originated by Peters Brothers, it was acquired by Blue Circle in 1912. The plant is about 0.5 km upstream from the Wouldham Hall plant was the West Kent plant, which operated from 1870 to 1925. Set up by the West Kent Portland Cement Co., it also was taken over by Blue Circle in 1912. The plant at Halling, closed in 2000, was owned by Rugby Portland Cement Co. Ltd. Blue Circle Industries Plc have now moved to Halling on other side of the River Medway. All buildings have been demolished just leaving a lot of concrete foundations in ground, hence sign. Halling village just seen in background.
