Stonebridge Pond, Faversham
Viewed from West Street. The footbridge on the left gives access to a patch of land where visitors may sit to enjoy the view or feed the many water fowl. Before Stonebridge Pond became part of the Home Gunpowder Works in the 17th century its waters would have been tidal. Now it is home to more black headed gulls than ducks but is a favourite place for visitors, especially small children. Stonebridge allotments are next to the pond.

Crested duck, Faversham
It seems to have escaped and made its home on Stonebridge Pond and has been adopted by a mallard drake. The crested is a breed of domestic duck. It was probably brought to Europe from the East Indies by Dutch ships. It has its appearance because it is heterozygous for a genetic mutation causing a deformity of the skull. Scientific name: Anas platyrhynchos domesticus
