Garden being restored at Restoration House
Charles II was said to have stayed here on the night of 28th May 1660 at his Restoration. The next day he made his triumphal return to London on his 30th birthday. It was also the model for Satis House in 'Great Expectations' and bears much more of a similarity to Miss Havisham's house as described by Dickens than Satis House which is nearer the castle. Restoration House is open two days a week and has a wonderful interior as well as surprisingly extensive gardens. See https://www.restorationhouse.co.uk/ for more detail. This is another part of the garden being restored but not open yet.
