Restoration House, Rochester
Charles II was said to have stayed here on the night of 28th May 1660 at his Restoration. The next day he made his triumphal return to London on his 30th birthday. It was also the model for Satis House in 'Great Expectations' and bears much more of a similarity to Miss Havisham's house as described by Dickens than Satis House which is nearer the castle. Restoration House is open two days a week and has a wonderful interior as well as surprisingly extensive gardens. See https://www.restorationhouse.co.uk/ and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restoration_House for more detail.

Charles II and Great Expectations
Restoration House was built in 1587 and it gets its name from the fact that Charles II was said to have stayed here on the night of 28th May 1660 at his Restoration. The next day he made his triumphal return to London on his 30th birthday. Restoration House was also the model for Satis House in 'Great Expectations' and bears much more of a similarity to Miss Havisham's house as described by Dickens than Satis House which is nearer the castle. This view is from the park called 'The Vines' and looks across Crow Lane. The Vines was originally part of the garden of Restoration House.
