Rochester: the Clock House
This building was erected in 1706 and was used as the city's Guildhall. It was built at the sole expense of Sir Cloudsley Shovel, who was MP for the city in four parliaments. The clock was replaced in 1771. See Image] for detail of the inscription above the door.

Rochester: plaque on the Clock House
A closer view of the plaque above the door of Image, explaining that it was built at the expense of Sir Cloudsley Shovel in 1706, and that he was MP for three parliaments straddling the reigns of King William III and Queen Ann (sic).
