Chatham Central railway station (site), Kent
Opened in 1892 by the South Eastern Railway as the terminus of its line from Strood, this station closed in 1911.
View north west from Rochester High Street. The building was roughly where the road junction now is with the tracks heading away from the camera position towards Rochester Common and Strood.
This station was neither Central, nor even in Chatham, and was almost adjacent to the London Chatham & Dover Railway's Rochester station! The duplication of stations in the Medway towns was resolved by rationalisation after the merging of the LCDR and the SER at the turn of the 20th Century, and this station was an early casualty.
