Hexagon Tower, Crumpsall Vale
Hexagon Tower, also known as ICI Building and Avecia Building, is situated on the bank of the River Irk at Blackley. The tower was designed by architect Richard Seifert & Partners and built in 1971 for ICI as a research, development and production centre. The Blackley facility was noted for the development of dyestuffs and also pharmaceuticals such as the anti-malarial drug Paludrine and Antrycide to combat African sleeping sickness. The building, later the home of home of Avecia Limited, makers of speciality chemicals, is now in multiple occupancy and is described by its owners as “a specialist science and technology facility offering modern general chemistry laboratories and refurbished office accommodation together with a variety of on-site amenities including a gym, health club and restaurant” http://www.hexagon-tower.co.uk/ .
