Former Lancashire Mining Museum
Originally opened in 1957 and based in the basement of this fine old house, it expanded through the building but was ultimately closed in about 2000 and the collections moved to the Museum of Science & Industry in Manchester. The picture shows a simulated underground working with a horizontal duplex winch that could have been run on steam or compressed air (compressed air would have been used underground).
