Salford Quays Waterfront Quay Car Parking and Vegetation
I described earlier the emptiness of the car parks along Waterfront Quay. They look abandoned and awaiting some sort of redevlopment. This puzzled me until I explored the history of this part of the Salford Quays Regeneration Project. I did this through the historical images which Google Earth stores in its database. Examining Waterfront Quay in Google Earth 2008, I was surprised to find that the car parks were more or less full and there were many small business office blocks along the road. This was described in flyers as Media Village. I have not researched further to find out when the offices along Waterfront Quay were removed or why that happened. I suspect it was with the advent of Media City and all the associated offices on the other side of the basin. Some offices remain near the Holiday Inn Express hotel. Abandoned places are not without charm as Nature soon fills a vacuum. The Rowanberry (Mountain Ash) and other trees planted along the original boundaries are flourishing.
