Footbridge at entrance to Mariners Canal
The footbridge will date from the early days of the Trafford Docks redevelopment when the Mariner's Canal linking the basins was cut in 1989. These landmark structures often attract higher maintenance costs. Here the yellow spinners are badly discoloured with rust. As a bridge engineer this bridge offends me in so many ways. The span does not require the crudely detailed cable stays or such high masts. The bracing at the top of the towers is 'architectural' and there are many bolted connections instead of welds.
