Demolition at Old Mill Street
Actually this is not an old mill but the Ancoats Dispensary, and it wasn't being demolished. By 2014 it had neither been saved nor demolished, merely cocooned - see Image View from the banks of the Ashton Canal before the Chips building was built. Sorry about the lamp-post!

Chips, New Islington
Love it or hate it, the Chips building at the New Islington inner city regeneration area in Manchester is certainly eye-catching. Designed by Will Alsop, Chips (http://www.urbansplash.co.uk/commercial/chips ) is promoted by developers Urban Splash as “one of the area's most significant buildings”. The ground floor is commercial space, whilst the floors above contain 142 residential apartments. The building is surrounded by canals on three sides and canals are highlighted by the names emblazoned on the side. http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2009/jul/12/chips-will-alsop-manchester-review Chips ... the hottest place in town (The Guardian/Observer)

Old Mill Street
Yet another large block of apartments is going up on the left. Meanwhile the forlorn shell of the former Ancoats dispensary remains enshrouded in scaffolding.

On the right is the "Chips" development and beyond is a derelict mill at the end of Piercy Street (see how it looked in 2014: Image). Across an arm of the New Islington Marina is car parking and completely wrapped in scaffolding is the former Ancoats Hospital.

'Chips' flats at New Islington
It takes a little time to spot the broken lettering, local rivers. Commissioned by Urban Splash in 2002, it was designed by Will Alsop, see; https://all.design/willalsop/chips

Former Ancoats Hospital
Completely wrapped in scaffolding and viewed from the side of the Chips apartment block by the Ashton Canal. The Ancoats hospital began life in 1828 as the Ardwick and Ancoats Dispensary on Great Ancoats Street. It moved to this building on Old Mill Street in 1869, built to serve the influx of people who came to the Ancoats area during Manchester's industrial hey-day. The hospital finally closed its doors in 1996 and the dispensary building is the last remaining in the area. Read further information and see it before it was wrapped in scaffolding on David Dixon's 2010 photograph Image A group "Ancoats Dispensary Trust" was formed in 2012 http://web.archive.org/web/20130915095809/http://www.saveancoatsdispensary.com/ with the aim of saving the building.
