Ena Mill, Atherton
A very complete Edwardian spinning mill built in 1908 of red and yellow brick with terracotta decoration. This is a spectacular survivor that is now in other retail usage. It is a grade II listed building. The railings on the right are in front of the mill's lodge (condenser cooling water pond) and this is in itself a now unusual survivor. The projecting building in front of the chimney is the former engine house and I think this almost certainly contained a horizontal four cylinder engine with rope drive. I have been unable to find out anything about this engine.

A very complete Edwardian spinning mill built in 1908 of red and yellow brick with terracotta decoration. This is a spectacular survivor that is now in other retail usage. It is a grade II listed building. This close-in view with horrible converging verticals shows the former engine house, boiler house and chimney. The engine house is of a form that almost certainly housed a horizontal four cylinder engine with rope drive. The chimney is complete with an oversailing cap and is now getting to be quite rare as many have been truncated.

Ena Mill, Atherton
Mill being restored with scaffolding alongside the engine house. The chimney is still to receive its name in large white letters but is mighty fine with an oversailing cap. The engine house was obviously for a horizontal engine, presumably with rope drive. It's a gorgeous example but I've seen little about it in print. The silver Cougar was my wheels at the time.

A very complete Edwardian spinning mill built in 1908 of red and yellow brick with terracotta decoration. This is a spectacular survivor that is now in other retail usage. It is a grade II listed building. This shows the former engine house, boiler house and chimney base in front of the multistorey mill block. The engine house is of a layout that suggests it held a horizontal four cylinder engine with rope drive. Unfortunately I have not found out anything about the engine.
