Looking North from Besses o' th' Barn station
An Up train is approaching. This station is unique on two counts: (1) It is the only island platform station on the line - the separation of the tracks as they approach is obvious here: and (2) when Totem-type station nameboards were used in former days, it was the only station on the BR system where lower-case lettering had to be used to fit in the name. Now, in Metrolink days, drivers seem unable to pronounce the station name properly. "Besses of the Barn" is often heard, which is, of course, quite wrong.
