A Glimpse of the Irk
The River Irk has been tamed by brick walls, probably for over a century. However nature is making a determined effort to reclaim it. This shot was one of the few glimpses available over a wall and between the buddleia bushes. Taken looking downstream.

Manchester Victoria - eastern approaches 1979
A view of the lines climbing Miles Platting bank. Parallel departures to Oldham and Bury have left the bay platforms 7 and 5 at 20 minutes past the hour and are probably trying to race each other as far as the divergence between the lines. A class 25 diesel returns to Manchester Victoria having assisted a freight train up the hill. Extra units for the Bury line's rush hour are on hand in the sidings on the right. Amidst all this, two railway workers walk along the tracks with no safety protection at all. A different era...
