29 Dantzic Street, Manchester
Distinctive building for the Co-operative Wholesale Society by W.A. Johnson and J.W. Cropper, 1936. Further down the road is its almost-twin sister (Image]). Pevsner says the inspiration is Dutch brick modernism. Of pale-brown brick, with horizontal bands of windows, decorative brickwork at the top, and a clear affinity with Art Deco in its curves. Grade II listed.

Shudehill Interchange
In the background is the Grade II listed https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1200849 CWS building on Dantzic Street. In front of it is a coach belonging to Connextionsbuses. As the firm is based in Harrogate and isn't actually using the interchange I assume it is on a special trip to the city.

Manchester heritage
The building on the left is the bowling alley and Imax cinema, part of the Vue Printworks. This is an entertainment complex named after the Withy Grove Print works of Edward Hulton, which closed in 1986, and was bought and re-developed by the Co-op, who own the other two buildings here. The central red brick building is a CWS warehouse, one of several on the block dating from the turn of the 20th century. The pale brick building on the right is Dantzig House, completed in 1942 and is a fine late example of Art Deco architecture. It was designed by W.A.Johnson, Chief Architect of the CWS, and was the home of the Cooperative Insurance Society until the construction of the CIS tower in the 1960s (Image). This is a grade II listed building - see https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1200849?section=official-list-entry . Long vacated by the original users, it is now rented to a variety of organisations.
